Not everyone likes to live in the heart of the city. While the bustle and walking distance amenities may call to some, others are drawn to more privacy and nature. If you want something between the two, Long Point is an excellent community to consider for your upcoming move. A rising gated community, it’s surrounded by a backdrop of lush greenery and less than two miles from Amelia Island State Park.

However, you’re also not cut off from amenities like restaurants and shopping centers. Long Point is close to shopping centers in Amelia Island Plantation, as well as the city of Fernandina Beach, where many restaurants and entertainment await.

Homes & Neighborhood

In Long Point, you’ll find single family homes usually containing 3-6 bedrooms, perfect for a growing family. You’ll also find a variety of architectural styles here: no cookie cutter homes in this community. You can find ranch style homes with charming gables or stately Mediterranean styles covered in deeply colored stucco. There are even lots that haven’t been used in Long Point so you can have a new construction built.

With lakes, marshes, and bodies of water like Amelia River and Nassau Sound so close, you’ll be surrounded by soothing water views and may even have access to a pier where you can fish or harbor a small boat for your leisure time. The neighborhood is private and gated, so even though you’re not far from amenities, it feels more secluded and peaceful.

Long Point has access to schools that are about a 10 minute drive from the community in Fernandina Beach. However, these are some of the top schools in Amelia Island, as referenced in a previous blog. For grades K-2, there’s Southside Elementary School, which also includes before and after school care for working parents. Emma Love Hardee Elementary School covers grades 3-5, and Fernandina Beach Middle School — which has been rated an “A” school by the Florida Department of Education 17 years running — is available for the next stage of education. Fernandina Beach High School rounds it out.

Amenities & Activities

If you like to get outside and enjoy nature, this is the community for you. Because of the close proximity to water and the many piers, fishing and boating are popular activities for those who live in this area. It can be something to do as a solitary activity at the end of a long week, or something to enjoy with the whole family. With the near distance to Amelia Island State Park, hiking can be another activity to enjoy here. There’s a Long Point member owned golf course for those who are members of Amelia Island Club. And not quite two miles away, you’ll find The Spa and Shops at Amelia Island Plantation, where you can find a number of restaurants and boutiques. There’s always live music in the shopping village on the weekends, and there are a number of community events that are never far.
